Step
5. Using Add/Remove

Figure 4: Add/Remove Program has been added to Contral Panel | |
After
installing from the PC for the first time, you will notice
a new icon called Add/Remove has been added to the Control
Panel on your PDA (Figure 4). This is similar to the Add/Remove
utility on Windows based PCs making clean removal of programs
as easy as installation. Tapping on the icon brings up a list
of installed software (Figure 5). From this list you simply
need to highlight the program you wish to remove and press
Delete.
It is important
to note
that some of
the
installed programs may contain files shared by other applications.
Sysram1.opx (Figure 5), is an example of such a file and should
only be removed after checking
that it is not required by any other program. Another program's
dependency on such shared files may not have been included in
the information stored in Add/Remove so you should consult the
programs documentation before removing such a file.

Step
6. Installing SIS files via the Psion
Once the
Add/Remove icon is added to the Control Panel you can alternatively
run EPOC Install files from the PDA itself. Simply copy the
SIS file to your PDA and tap on the file's icon. This will
open the EPOC Install program on the PDA instead of the PC.
To do this you must first have the Add/Remove icon on your
PDA's Control Panel. Without this, the SIS file will not be
recognised by your PDA. After making one PC based installation
you can therefore install from the PDA or PC. If you intend
to download and run files from the internet via you PDA, without
going near a PC, you can install the Add/Remove utility without
using your PC by downloading a program called instexe.exe
from the Psion
web site. Copy this to your PDA, do not worry that
it shows up as a question mark on the system screen, tap on
it, and it will install the Add/Remove feature to your PDA.
You will now be able to run SIS files on your PDA and they
will now show up with the correct Icon on the system screen.
I hope
that this short guide has been of help showing how simple
it can be to install programs to your PDA.
